‘Enrique’s Journey’ brings tale of immigration, perseverance and a call to action to Boulder
Donnie l. Betts, who bought the rights to Richard Durham’s historical radio dramas that originally aired from 1949 to 1951, spells his name with lowercase letters on purpose. “Destination Freedom: Black Radio Days” is syndicated to 150 radio stations and featured on the BBC worldwide.
The play “Enrique’s Journey,” based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning nonfiction novel by Sonia Nazario, will be performed at the Dairy Arts Center. “We want to keep the issues of the border and immigration at the forefront of people’s minds,” betts said. Parts one and two of the bilingual play will take place in Boulder, with parts three and four likely in Denver.
