Not to be confused with the Dave Clark Five song Any Way You Want It, which was released in February 1980 as the lead single from their sixth studio album Departure and peaked at number 23 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was written by lead singer Steve Perry and guitarist Neal Schon.
“Any Way You Want It,” written by Phil Lynott, Neal Schon, and Perry in July 1979 while on tour with Thin Lizzy, is one of Journey’s most famous songs. For the studio version, keyboardist Gregg Rolie originally used a defective mellotron.
The music video was directed by Kim Paul Friedman and premiered in March 1980; a live performance from the Departure Tour is also available; both videos were omitted from the band’s Greatest Hits 1978u20131997 DVD in favor of another live version of the song from the Escape Tour.
