A Dog’s Journey (film)
A Dog’s Journey is a 2019 American family comedy-drama film directed by Gail Mancuso, and is the sequel to the 2017 film A Dog’s Purpose. It is based on the 2012 novel of the same name by W. Bruce Cameron and is directed by Gail Mancuso in her feature film directorial debut.
Bailey, an elderly St. Bernard/Australian Shepherd, lives happily with his owner Ethan, Hannah, their 2-year-old granddaughter CJ, and her mother Gloria. When Ethan discovers a tumor in Bailey’s stomach, he asks Bailey to look after CJ before euthanizing him.
Molly is reincarnated as an English Mastiff named Big Dog, who is a guard dog at a gas station/convenience store with a new owner, Joe. CJ, now an adult, visits the store, and Big Dog gives CJ his paw, indicating that he remembers CJ from when CJ trained Molly. Big Dog is reincarnated as a Yorkshire Terrier named Max, who is at an adoption event.
As Buddy Elle, Rosebud, Diane, Rydel, and Lemy as Molly Scott as Big Dog Belle, Dennis Quaid as Ethan Montgomery, and Marg Helgenberger as Hannah Montgomery, the film stars Josh Gad as Bailey, Molly, Big Dog, and Max Bruce.
On June 21, 2017, Amblin Entertainment CEO Michael Wright announced that a sequel to the film A Dog’s Purpose was in the works, and Universal Pictures began principal photography on the sequel on August 26, 2018. The film is set to hit theaters in 2019.
Trent is voiced by actor Peter Baykov for the international release of the film, which was released on May 17, 2019.
A Dog’s Journey was released on digital on August 6th, and on Blu-ray, DVD, and on-demand on August 20th, with bonus features such as Deleted and Extended Scenes, Gag Reel A DOG’S Sequel, and new and returning cast members discussing their roles.

CinemaScore gave it an “A” on a scale of A to F, the same as its predecessor, and review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes has given it a 50% approval rating based on 80 reviews with an average rating of 5.17/10.
